Obituary of David Edwards
Gloversville, NY-Mr. David Carl Edwards, 87, a lifelong Gloversville resident, passed away on Friday afternoon, June 30, 2017 with the support of his family by his side. His passing occurred at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home.
He was born on April 10, 1930, in Gloversville, son of the late Charles and Margaret (McLaughlin) Edwards. He received his education in Mayfield schools and then joined his family in the farming business. He was united in marriage with Lois J. Tiedeman on August 14, 1955; a union of 61 years. David delivered milk for 44 years and enjoyed his several years in the farming industry. He retired in 1999.
Mr. Edwards was very active in the community. He joined the Pleasant Square Volunteer Fire Department in 1954 and never ended his duties in the fire department. He served on the Mayfield school board for 16 years with his first term beginning in 1968. David was elected to the HFM BOCES Board, serving for 37 years and served as past president. He was a proud community minded individual in the town of Johnstown sitting on the zoning board of appeals being elected in 1974. He then was elected town councilman and served in this capacity from 1986 until 2000. His final political accomplishment was being elected as town supervisor and serving from 2000 until 2008 when he retired from the town of Johnstown. Mr. Edwards was active with the Cooperative Extension from 1993-2006, where he was a master gardener and also served on their board. In 1997, Governor George E. Pataki appointed Mr. Edwards to the NYCAMH board, which he took tremendous pride in. In his spare time, David enjoyed gardening and geocaching.
Survivors include his beloved family; his wife Lois at home; daughter, Linda Lavender and husband Bill of Palm Coast, FL, and Leza McLain and husband Rusty of Chesapeake, VA; two grandchildren, Kyle and wife Aimee and Amy; two great granddaughters, Heaven and Madison; two brothers, Robert Edwards and wife Linda of Northville and Roger Edwards and wife Nila of Gloversville; many nieces, nephew and cousins.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Mr. Edward's memorial service commencing at 12:00 noon on Friday, July 7, 2017 from Walrath and Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville with the Rev. Cindy VanAllen of Foothills Methodist Church, Gloversville officiating. Visitation will take place also on Friday from 10 am until 12 pm, prior to the service at the funeral home. Procession will follow to Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville, where inurnment will take place.
