Obituary of Donald H. Smith

Mr. Donald H. Smith, 71, of Clark Avenue, Ft. Plain, passed away early Monday morning at home. Born April 21, 1934 he was the son of the late Ray and Irene Dillenbeck Smith. He was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools. Mr. Smith was employed as a truck driver for many years for various firms. He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge, The Masonic F & AM Lodge #433, The Ft. Plain Volunteer Fire Department and the V.F.W. Mohawk Valley Post. Mr. Smith also held the offices of Town Assessor and Village Trustee of Ft. Plain. He was married to Levina ?Blondie? Smith on June 21, 1957. That union lasted 45 years until her death on July 15, 2002. He was also predeceased by one brother, Eugene Lincoln Smith. Survivors include: one daughter, Tina Gallt and her husband Lester of Ft. Plain, NY; one son, Donald Smith and his wife Barbara of Rochester, NY; six sisters, Doris Trance and her husband James of Albany, NY; June Fisk and her husband William of Ft. Plain, NY; Janet Rieger, and her husband Richard of Glens Falls, NY; Betty Specht and her husband Robert of Whitesboro, NY; Rosemarie Utter and her husband Phillip of Glendale, Arizona; and Veronica Maier and her husband Wayne of Edmeston, NY; two brothers, Leonard Smith and his wife Anita of Muncy, PA; and Gilbert Smith and his wife Mary of Clifton Park, NY; four grandchildren Kiesha, Kristen, Kyle and Korie; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made in Donald?s memory to the America Heat Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205 or to the Mid County Volunteer Ambulance Corp., P.O. Box 126, Canajoharie, NY 13317. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie.
