Obituary of C. Kenneth Armstrong

Mr. C. Kenneth Armstrong, 93, of Locust Avenue, Amsterdam entered into eternal rest peacefully Thursday morning at Montgomery Meadows after a short stay. Born in Ilion, New York on November 27, 1912 he was the son of the late Charles and Teresa Costello Armstrong. He was a lifelong area resident and was a graduate of Amsterdam High School. Mr. Armstrong worked for General Electric and for Millers Department Store. He was also the owner and operator of ?Ken?s Beauty Shop? in Amsterdam. Mr. Armstrong was a member of the Pine Tree Rifle Club of Johnstown, and was a communicant of St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. On June 4, 1938 he was united in marriage to Ellenmarie Sitterly at St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church. That union lasted 62 years until her death on March 28, 2000. Mr. Armstrong was also predeceased by a son, Charles Armstrong Jr.; one sister, Ruth Schmidt, and two brothers, Bernard and John Armstrong. Survivors include: one daughter, Rita C. Conti; one son, John Armstrong; one sister, Bernice Smitka; one brother, William Armstrong; two grandchildren, Lisa Gonzalez and Mary Beth Martin; two great grandchildren, Casey and Alonzo Martin and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 8:15am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street Amsterdam. Interment will follow in St. Mary?s Cemetery, Ft. Johnson. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 3 until 5 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary?s Church Memorial Fund, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam.
