Obituary of Paul Wilson Blood Herring

Dr. Paul Wilson Blood Herring also known as ?Timer? passed away on January 7, 2006 at the Samuel Stratton Veteran?s Administration Medical Center in Albany, New York after a long illness. Dr. Herring was born in Amsterdam, New York on December 14, 1942. He was predeceased by his father, Floyd Wilson Blood, who passed away on March 17, 1976 and his mother, Margaret Teabout Blood, who passed away on February 22, 1983. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Dahlia Herring. He is also survived by four daughters: Paige Herring Davis of Johnstown, New York, Tiffaney Herring Cardoso of Ravena, New York, Pamela Herring of Chesapeake, Virginia and Mary Margaret Herring of McClellan, Texas. He is survived by three grandchildren: Amari Brown of Ravena, New York, Ashilee Herring of Johnstown, New York, and Gabriel Andrzejewski of Chesapeake, Virginia. He also has one great- grandson, Ayedin Waldvogel of Johnstown, New York. He is also survived by four brothers: Dr. George Herring of Oakland, California, Martin Blood of Oakland, California, Robert Herring of Saratoga Springs, New York and Thomas Blood of Orlando, Florida. He is survived by four sisters: Beatrice K. Blood of Schenectady, New York, Margaret Beekman of Amsterdam, New York, Charlene Ellison of Schenectady, New York and Patricia Blood of Albany, New York. Dr. Herring is also survived by his uncle, Henry Blood, of Springfield, Ohio; his aunt, Catherine Daniels, of Albany, New York and his aunt, Anna Crossley, of Lawrenceville, Georgia. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Dr. Herring served two duties in Vietnam. He received the following medals: National Defense Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal with rifle expert badge, Vietnamese Campaign Medal with device combat action ribbon, Good conduct medal, Purple Heart Medal, Bronze Star Medal with combat, and the Presidential Unit Commendation. Dr. Herring received his doctorate from Albany State University where he taught African history for many years. He also taught at Utica College. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 12:00 noon, at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, with the Rev. Timothy Bowen officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery with full military honors. A calling period will precede the funeral from 10 until 12. Memorial contributions may be made in Dr. Herring's memory to the Samuel Stratton Veterans Administration Medical Center, 113 Holland Avenue, Albany, New York.
