Obituary of Julia Cullen

Julia C. Cullen 82, of North Ballston Avenue, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, at Ellis Hospital. Julia was the thirteenth child born to Emery and Antonia Riska Hoferka of Smithtown, Pa. She was born on June 1, 1923. She lived in the Perth and Scotia area for many years. Julia was a communicant of St. Joseph?s Church in Scotia, and a member of it?s Rosary Society and the Quilter?s Club. She was also a lifetime member of the YMCA where she enjoyed aerobics, nautilus , line and square dancing. An avid golfer, Julia was also a master cane chair weaver and an accomplished tatter. Her husband, Paul J. Cullen, whom she married on March 27, 1947, predeceased her on October 18, 1993. Her husband had a long career with General Electric Co. in Schenectady as manager in the engineering turbine department. Julia will long be remembered and missed by her eight children and their spouses; Stephanie Slezak George of Mandan North Dakota, Paula Cullen Lane Corson of Webster, NY, Daniel Cullen Dana Amsterdam; Julie Ann Wood Richard of Perth, Elaine Pelligrin Harry of Scotia, Kathleen Stoneman of Bruce Michigan, Carol Ann Hartman William of Canastota, NY, and Christopher Cullen Melanie of Schenectady, her brother Paul Hoferka of Pennsylvania, as well as twenty grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Services are Tuesday at 9:30 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at St. Stephen?s Church, Hagaman. Fr. Ronald Matulewicz, celebrant. Spring interment is in St. Stephen?s Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday evening from 5-8 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the American Lung Asso. or the American Heart Asso. both in care of the funeral home office.
