Obituary of Marillyn C. Kemp

Mrs. Marillyn C. Kemp of Gloversville, loving wife of the late Dr. Robert L. Kemp, died Thursday morning, January 5, 2006 at Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville. She was born on August 23, 1922 in Gloversville, the daughter of the late Richard Lansing Cole and Emily Marvin Cole. She was a 1939 graduate of Gloversville High School, received a B.S. degree from SUNY Potsdam in 1943 and a Masters degree in Education from the University of Albany in 1945. She taught at McNab School until her marriage in 1947. She then taught in the Philadelphia, PA public schools for two years and the Springside School for Girls in Chestnut Hill, PA for seven years. While in Pennsylvania, she did graduate work in Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1955 Marillyn returned to Gloversville with her husband and helped him set up and maintain his office for the practice of internal medicine. She was an active member of the former First United Methodist Church, serving as Benevolence Treasurer for several years. She was a member of the Women?s Board of the Getman Home, the Y.M.C.A; Friends of the Gloversville Free Library, the Fulton County Children?s Committee, the Women?s Republican Club and was a past member of the Nathan Littauer Hospital Auxiliary. Mrs. Kemp and her husband were devoted benefactors of Nathan Littauer Hospital, Mountain Valley Hospice, Fulton Montgomery Community College and their church. She leaves behind a godson, Richard C. Giardino and his family, ?her girls? Sherry and Charlene, and special friends Jim and Ruth Quinn. The loving care and the encouragement of her other friends is deeply appreciated. At Marillyn?s request, there will be no calling hours. She will be buried along side of her husband in FernDale Cemetery, Johnstown. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, with the Rev. R. W. Williams officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
