Obituary of Stephen M. Steffek

Stephen M. Steffek, 83, died Tuesday, January 3, at his home on State Highway 161. Born in Gloversville, New York, on April 25, 1922, he was the son of Joseph & Barbara Rosboril Steffek. Steve attended Albany Bush Rural School in the Town of Mohawk and lived most of his life in the Town of Florida. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII where he served in the Army Engineer Corp and was in the European Theatre and the Battle of the Bulge. Steve first worked for a short time at General Electric in Schenectady and later worked construction for Knolls Atomic Laboratory in Wilton until retiring in 1986. He was a member and past commander of the Broadalbin VFW Post 8690 and a communicant of St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. On May 4, 1946, he married the former Laura Tylutki, who died January 24, 1995. He was also predeceased by a son, Edward S. Steffek of the US Marine Corp, who died in the Viet Nam War in 1966 and by his daughter, Loretta Rood, who died February 25, 2000. Survivors included a brother, John A. Steffek of Broadalbin; a son-in-law, David Rood of Schenectady, New York and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 6, 2006 at 8:15 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:15 am at St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church, East Main Street, Amsterdam. Burial will take place in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Amsterdam with Military Honors. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home.
