Obituary of Rose LaBarca

Rose La Barca , age 92 of Gloversville NY, died Friday, December 23, 2005 at the Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home in Gloversville. Mrs. La Barca was born April 12, 1913 in Manhattan, NY, the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Rosario Garofalo Mongato. Her family moved to Gloversville when she was a small child. Mrs. La Barca was educated in the Gloversville Schools. She was a seamstress and home maker, employed for many years at the former Winig Slipper Co. A devoted family person, Rose had been well-known for her cooking and love of crocheting, as well as enjoying the Saratoga racing season and occaisional trips to a casino with family and friends. On September 22, 1940 she was married to Anthony ?Tony? LaBarca, who died in 1989. Survivors include her daughter Grace Naselli of Gloversville, and sons John LaBarca of New Hope, PA and Vincent LaBarca of Gloversville, and daughter Rosena LaBarca of Gloversville. Also surviving are two sisters, Jennie Ragusa and Josephine Vezzi, both of Gloversville, and one brother, Jack Mongato of Boynton Beach, FL. Mrs. LaBarca also leaves behind three grandchildren, Joannne Bronk and her husband Robert of Clifton Park, Christine Decker and her husband William of Gloversville, and Joseph Naselli and his wife Nicole of Johnstown;six great grandchildren, Robbie, Emily and Morgan Bronk, Matthew and Kaitlyn Decker, and Trey Naselli, two sisters-in-law: Rose LoFaso and Josephine La Barca, both of Boynton Beach, FL, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Belle Ardizzone and Frances Garofalo, and a brother, Joseph Mongato. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, December 28 at 1 p.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel church in Gloversville. Burial will be in the spring at Mt. Carmel cemetery, Johnstown. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street Gloversville.
