Obituary of Antoinette Edna M. Stokna

Palatine Bridge, N.Y.?Antoinette Edna M. Stokna , 92, formerly of Swan Street in Amsterdam, died Thursday morning at the Palatine Nursing Home where she resided. Born in Amsterdam, New York, on June 11, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Slikas. She was a life long area resident. Edna was the owner and operator of the former Stokna?s Liquor Store in Amsterdam until she retired in 1989. She was a communicant of St. Casimir?s Roman Catholic Church and a member of the St. Casimir?s Ladies Auxiliary. Edna was also a member of the Knights of Lithuania and the Emblem Club # 273, serving at one time as President. She was married on June 29, 1939 to Attorney Anthony C. Stokna, who died September 15, 1971. Edna was also predeceased by a daughter, Juanita F. Santa Maria and a son-in-law, Robert A. Nethaway. Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Nethaway; a brother-in-law, John Kolodziej of Amsterdam; a sister-in-law, Charlette Stokna of Galway; six grandchildren, Robert Nethaway, Michelle Pettica, Anthony J. Santa Maria, Michael P. Santa Maria, Christopher S. Santa Maria and Daniel C. Santa Maria; four great grandchildren, Justin and Abigail and two other great grandchildren; nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Christmas Eve, at 9:15 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at St. Casimir?s Roman Catholic Church, East Main Street, Amsterdam with the Rev. Stanley Swierzowski as celebrant. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made in Edna?s memory to a charity of one?s choice.
