Obituary of Vito E. Messineo

Mr. Vito E. Messineo, 89 years old, formerly of Princeton Street, died Tuesday at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam. Vito was born October 14, 1916 in Amsterdam, a son of Angelo and Leona Mary Litto Messineo. He was educated in Amsterdam schools and was a life long resident of Amsterdam. Mr. Messineo was employed by the former Mohawk Carpet Mills, Sonoco Paper Products and Amsterdam Glove Co. He finished his career with the General Electric Co. in Schenectady, in the turbine department, retiring in 1981. He was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. Mr. Messineo was a member of the Rosary Society of the church and of the St. Michael?s Seniors. He loved to bowl and play Bocci, and was an avid N.Y. Yankee fan. Mr. Messineo married the former Concetta Greco on September 25, 1937 who survives. He is also survived by three sons, Michael Messineo and his wife Joan of Whitesboro, Anthony Messineo and his wife Agnes of Lakewood, California, and Patrick Messineo and his wife Patricia of Amsterdam; his brother, Joseph ?Mason? Messineo of Amsterdam; his sister, Mary Noto of Amsterdam; eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Other survivors include brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Messineo was predeceased by two brothers, Alphonso and Michael Messineo. Funeral services will be held 10:15am Thursday at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, followed at 11:00am by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Amsterdam, with the Rev. Lawrence J. Decker officiating. Burial is in St. Michael?s Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Foundation at St. Mary?s Hospital, St. Mary?s Institute or the charity of one?s choice.
