Obituary of LeRoy Poyfair

LeRoy Poyfair, age 84 of Gloversville, entered into rest at his home on Sunday evening, November 26, 2005, with his devoted wife and family at his side. LeRoy had battled Parkinson?s disease for many years. He was born July 24, 1921 in Gloversville, the son of the late Chester and Mary Schrum Poyfair. He served in the 27th Division of the Army National Guard from 1939 until entering the US Army in 1940. He served during World War II in the Central Pacific Campaign including Saipan and Macon until he was discharged in 1945. He then worked as a meat cutter for several years. For 40 years he worked for Cordone´s Inc. of Gloversville, mainly as a soda maker. He later worked at TJ?s Beverage for 5 years until he finally retired at the age of 70. Mr. Poyfair was a member of American Legion Post #137 and V.F.W. Post #2077 of Gloversville. On March 28, 1948 LeRoy was married to Betty I. Travis, his wife of 57 years, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Larry Poyfair and Randy Poyfair and his companion Helen Lawyer; a daughter, Sherry Sartin and her husband Raymond Sartin, all of Gloversville, two grandchildren, Eric Sartin and his companion Kati Hohler and Amy Sartin and her companion Jason Christman; two great great granddaughters, Mikalla Sartin and Brooke Sartin, all of Gloversville. LeRoy?s faithful dog Shelby also survives. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ortell; his brother, Wilbur Poyfair; and his nephew, Robert Ortell. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM Tuesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday with the Rev. R. W. Williams officiating. Interment will take place in the spring at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Northville. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078 or to Toys for Tots.
