Obituary of Robert G. Brown

Mr. Robert G. Brown, age 88, formerly of Lakeside Drive, Mayfield, died Saturday, November 26, 2005 at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility, Gloversville. He was born October 25, 1917 in Gloversville, the son of the late Edward and Josephine Sowle Brown. A 1935 graduate of Gloversville High School, he also received a Bachelor?s Degree in Chemistry at Cornell University in 1939. Mr. Brown first worked with a team at the B.F. Goodrich Company in Akron, Ohio during World War II that helped develop synthetic rubber. He later became assistant technical director of the laboratory at Mohawk Carpet Mills in Amsterdam. After World War II Mr. Brown founded the company that became Spray Nine Corporation in Johnstown, where he retired as President in 1988. He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ and The Eccentric Club of Gloversville, the American Chemical Society and the Leather Chemists Society. Other affiliations included the Sacandaga Reservoir Association and various photography clubs. Mr. Brown was married December 26, 1937 to Marie C. Close who survives. Also surviving are three children, Roxana Vuskalns of Mayfield, Robert L. Brown of Riverside, RI and Edward L. Brown of Mayfield; seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and one niece. He was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Evans. A memorial service will be held on December 21, 2005 at 11:00 am at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Gloversville, with the Rev. Tomi Jacobs officiating. There will be no calling hours. Cremation took place at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, 1250 Hylan Blvd; Staten Island, NY 10305. Arrangements are by Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville.
