Obituary of Nancy A. Pakeltis

Nancy A. Pakeltis, 88, of The Mall, Amsterdam, passed away Wednesday morning at St. Mary?s Hospital. Born in Amsterdam on October 2, 1917, her parents were John and Sadie Mazelauskas, she was a graduate of St. Mary?s Institute and the Amsterdam School of Commerce. Nancy first worked in her family?s business, the former John?s Market and later at the former Pakeltis Market. For nearly twenty-five years, she was a sales associate for the former Hallet?s store in Amsterdam, and also was the bookkeeper for Fulmont Electric Company, which was run by her husband. At one time, Nancy was a communicant of St. Joseph?s Church and was active in its parochial school. Currently, she was a communicant of St. Casimir?s Roman Catholic Church, and was a member of its Ladies Auxiliary and Living Rosary Society. Nancy also found time to volunteer at the gift shop in St. Mary?s Hospital for a number of years and was also a member of the Hospital Auxiliary and the Club 60 of St. Mary?s. On June 6, 1941, she was united in marriage to Joseph J. Pakeltis; in addition to her beloved husband of nearly sixty five years, she leaves her children: Marilyn J. Pakeltis of Amsterdam and Jack and his wife Liz Pakeltis of Dana Point, California; her granddaughter, Megan Jean Pakeltis of Tucson, Arizona and cousins. Services are Saturday at 8:45 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am at St. Casimir?s Church with Fr. Stanley J. Swierzowski, celebrant. Interment is in St. Casimir?s Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home where the Ladies? Auxiliary of St. Casimir?s Church is requested to meet at 6:00 pm for the recitation of the Chaplet. The family requests that contributions be made to either St. Casimir?s Memorial Fund or St. Mary?s Hospital Foundation both in care of the funeral home.
