Obituary of Helen M. Silka

Helen M. Silka, 93, formerly of Mathias Avenue, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon at the Hillcrest Springs Adult Home, where she had been a resident. Born in Schenectady on August 8, 1912, the last surviving child of Stanislaw and Sophia Punska Milewski, she was educated locally. Helen was employed by the General Electric Company for many years until she retired, and was a member of its Quarter Century Club. She was a communicant of St. Stanislaus? Roman Catholic Church. Her beloved husband, Joseph Silka, predeceased her on May 19, 1984 as well as her sister, Regina Pawloski, and brothers Stanley and John Milewski. Her loving family includes her niece, Barbara and her husband Clint Morgan of New York City, and her nephew, James Pawloski of Amsterdam, as well as other nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Services are Friday at 8:15AM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by a Funeral Mass that will be celebrated at 9AM at St. Stanislaus? Church by Fr. David Mickiewicz. Interment is in St. Stanislaus? Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 5-7PM at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in Helen?s name to St. Stanislaus? Church, 50 Cornell Street, Amsterdam 12010. The family wishes to thank the staff and administration of Hillcrest Spring for their care and attention over the years she lived there.
