Obituary of Donald F. Stanyon

Mr. Donald F. Stanyon, age 74, died Sunday, October 30, 2005 at Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home, Gloversville. He was born October 6, 1931 in Gloversville, the son of Roscoe R. and Janet Bacon Stanyon. A graduate of Governor Dummer Academy in Byfield, Ma; he later graduated with a bachelor?s degree from Syracuse University. He served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1955. A longtime Gloversville resident, Mr. Stanyon also resided in Englewood, Florida for many years. Mr. Stanyon served as Vice President of the family owned Imperial Glove Company of Gloversville. He enjoyed playing golf in his leisure time. As a member of Englewood Masonic Lodge #360 in Englewood, Florida, he received his 40 year recognition in 1998. He was a former member of Masonic Lodge #429 and the Eccentric Club, both of Gloversville. On August 22, 1953 he was married to Lois Behlen who died February 22, 1992. Survivors include three sons, Donald F. Stanyon Jr. and his wife Lisa of Gloversville, David W. Stanyon and his wife Diane of St. Cloud, FL; and Daniel R. Stanyon and his wife Dawn of Colchester, VT; six grandchildren, Christopher Stanyon, Jonathan Stanyon, Trishia Stanyon, Ryan Stanyon, Hannah Stanyon and Blake Stanyon; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brothers Roscoe R. Stanyon and John R. Stanyon. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 PM Wednesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Thursday with the Rev. Wayne E. Jones Sr. officiating. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Rd; Loudonville, NY 12211, or to the American Parkinson Disease Association, 1250 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10305, or to the charity of your choice.
