Obituary of Lena Scarofile

Lena ?Filomena? Scarofile, 95, formerly of Princeton Street, passed away Saturday morning at Montgomery Meadows. Born in Amsterdam on Feb. 24, 1910, one of eight children and the last surviving child of Peter and Theresa Aldi Giaquinto, she lived here her entire life and was educated locally. She was employed for a time by Chalmers in Amsterdam, and later as a bookkeeper for the former Stretmeyer Construction Company, which was under the operation of her husband Charles. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church. Her husband Charles Scarofile, whom she married on June 12, 1927, predeceased her in 1973 as well as her two sons, Anthony and his wife Angie and Peter Scarofile and a grandson, Anthony Scarofile Jr. Lena was a loving grandmother and great grandmother who had a wonderful sense of humor and possessed a keen mind right to her last day. She was deeply family oriented and proudly attended the wedding last year of her great grandson. An animal lover, she enjoyed feeding not only her own pets, but also those of her family and friends. Her loving family includes her daughter in law, Edna Scarofile of Amsterdam; her grandchildren: Ronald and his wife Jannette Scarofile, Carol Krouse, Lisa Scarofile-Graveley and her husband Tomas, Kim Porcello and her husband Stephen and Karen Gardinier and her husband Donald; 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Services are Monday morning at 8:15 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Fr. Lawrence J. Decker, celebrant. Interment will take place in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Calling hours are today from 3-5 pm at the funeral home.
