Obituary of Marguerite Dennison Fincke

Marguerite Dennison Fincke, 93, died on September 1, 2005 in Warwick, New York. Daughter of Alfred Dennison, former District Attorney of Fulton County, New York and his wife, Marguerite, she was the beloved wife of the Late Reverend Luther P. Fincke, D.D. For over forty years, they served and pastored together in six Presbyterian churches located in Dolgeville, NY; Newark, NJ; Flushing, NY; Pittsburg, PA; Havertown, PA; and Miami, FL. She assisted her husband in many capacities, most notably in counseling parishioners. Also, she was in great demand as a Bible teacher and speaker to women?s groups in the community at large as well as in various churches. In many ways she defined the active supporting role of a minister?s wife. Upon their retirement in 1975 Dr. and Mrs. Fincke moved to Marco Island, Florida and became founding members of the Marco Presbyterian Church. They also remained passionate in their love of the game of golf. She lived in the Marco Island-Naples area until June of this year when she moved to Warwick, New York to be closer to her sons. Mrs. Fincke graduated in 1930 Summa Cum Laude from Johnstown, New York High School and earned her B.A. degree from Vassar College in 1934. Upon graduation she taught school at the Peck?s Park Schoolhouse outside Gloversville, NY. On July 31, 1935 she married Luther P. Fincke and embarked on her two careers as a dedicated pastor?s wife and devoted mother of five sons. She spent each summer from 1935 to 2003 in the Adirondacks at her home, Pine Knoll, in Caroga Lake, New York. Surviving are her five sons Gerald B; Dudley D; Lawrence G; Alan J; and Andrew L; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two sisters. A private interment service will take place at Johnstown Cemetery, Johnstown, NY. A public memorial service will be held at 4 PM Sunday, September 11, 2005 at the United Presbyterian Church of Manoa, Eagle Road and Sunnyhill Lane, Havertown, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either the United Presbyterian Church of Manoa or the Marco Presbyterian Church. Condolences may be sent in care of her son Dudley Dennison Fincke at 136 Lori Lane, Broomall, Pa 19008. Arrangements are by Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville, NY.
