Obituary of Virgil P. Carr

Virgil P. Carr Jr., 75, of Wells, passed away Monday evening at Nathan Littauer Hospital. Born July 9, 1930 in Manhattan, he was the son of Virgil and Marie Flynn Carr, Sr. He was educated at Fordham Prepratory School in New York City and graduated Magma Cum Laude from Farleigh Dickinson University. He also did extensive graduate work at Monclair College and at the State University of New York at Albany. He began his English teaching career at Wells School in 1967 and retired from that position in 1987. A veteren, he served in the Army Signal Corps from 1951 to 1953. An accomplished photographer, he was well known for this life long passion. During the 1950s and 1960s, Mr. Carr raced stock cars at Fonda Speedway. He was also a member of Fish House Masonic Lodge #298. Survivors include his wife Rosalie Raymond Carr of Wells; one son: David Carr of Gloversville; two daughters: Danielle Carr of Carthage, NY; and Lynn Carr of Fair Oaks, CA; four grandchildren: Ryan, Joshua, Trevett and Jessica; two stepdaughters: Mary Ann and Patricia and their families. There will be no calling hours. Cremation took place at Parkview Crematorium, Schenectady. Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial celebration of his life that will be held at the family residence from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2005. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078 or the American Diabetes Association, 7 Washington Square, Albany, NY 12205. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville.
