Obituary of Constance Frey

Constance Gambardella Frey 78, of Phillips Street, passed away peacefully Friday evening at St. Mary?s Hospital with her loving family at her side. She was born in Amsterdam on April 10, 1927, one of three daughters of Vincent and Annunziata Salamack Gambardella. A lifelong resident, she was a 1944 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Connie received her bachelor of science business degree from the Quinnipiac College in Hamden Ct. She was first employed by the Beneficial Finance Company. After taking some years to raise her family, she began a long career with the Greater Amsterdam School District as a reading specialist aide, retiring at the age of seventy from the Marie Curie Eastside School. Blessed with a beautiful singing voice, Connie was a member of the Mohawk Valley Chorus and sang in her youth in the Holy Angels Choir. A devout Catholic, she was a lifelong member of St. Michael The Archangel Roman Catholic Church, where she was baptized, confirmed and was married. On April 11, 1948, she was united in marriage to William R. Frey. In addition to her husband of fifty-seven years, her loving family includes her children; Nancy D. and her husband John Mattas of Amsterdam; Mark V. Frey and his partner Doug Vogel of Rancho Palos Verdes, Ca.; her sister; Raphaela and her husband Stephen Soulla of Amsterdam; her grandchildren; Constance Anna ?Connie?Ziskin, C. William ?Bill? Staley, Sara Michele Mattas, Hannah Ross Vogel ? Frey, and Rebecca Morgan Vogel ? Frey; great grandchildren; Andrew and Emily Hastings, Tommy Ziskin , Mia and Aidan Staley; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, and a sister, Anne Schaefer. Services are Tuesday morning at 10:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Michael The Archangel Church. Fr. Lawrence J. Decker, celebrant. Calling hours are Monday from 4-8 pm at the funeral home. Interment is in the family plot in St. Michael?s Cemetery.
