Obituary of Frank J. Varsoke

Frank J. Varsoke, 81, of Reidel Rd, Town of Perth, passed away Sunday evening at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam. Born in Amsterdam, NY on January 29, 1924 a son of Thomas and Joanna Abucewicz Varsoke. He was a lifelong area resident and was a 1942 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam. Mr. Varsoke was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He worked for many years at the former Mohasco Industries in Amsterdam until his retirement in 1986. He was a former communicant of St. Joseph?s Church in Amsterdam. He was also a member of the Perth Volunteer Fire Department and was on the Board of Assessors for the Town of Perth at one time. He was a member of the Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course and enjoyed gardening, golfing and spending time with his family. He married Gloria Taylor Varsoke in October 16, 1948. In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Gail Stevens and her husband Richard of Holderness, NH, Patricia ?Pat? Jones and her husband Baird of Lanexa, VA and Karen Markert and her husband Brian of Perth, NY; one brother, Stephen Varsoke of Amsterdam, NY; one sister, Mildred Thomas of Maryland; four grandchildren, Jennifer Mullen and Karrie Thomas and Nikki and Stephanie Markert; two step-Grandchildren, Beau and Elizabeth Jones; two Great-grandsons, Jordan and Dakota Engle; and one step-Great-granddaughter, Ellis Elizabeth Jones. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday August 18, 2005 at 9:00AM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM at St. Stephen?s Roman Catholic Church, Pawling St. in Hagaman with the Rev. Ron Matulewicz as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Stephen?s Cemetery in Hagaman. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday August 17, 2005 from 4-7:00PM at the funeral home. Flowers are appreciated. Memorial contributions may be made in Frank?s memory to the Amsterdam Community Cancer Program, 1700 Riverfront Center, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
