Obituary of Raymond L. Noyes

Mr. Raymond L. Noyes, age 86, formerly of N. Main St., Gloversville, NY died Friday, August 12, 2005 at The Connecticut Hospice in Branford, CT. He was born September 21, 1918 in Gloversville, the son of the late Charles and Florence Leach Noyes. A 1936 graduate of Gloversville High School, he also graduated from Alfred State College in 1938 and attended SUNY Cobleskill. A Navy Veteran of World War II, he he had previously lived in Mayfield for seven years, in Schenectady for two years, was a long-time Gloversville resident, and lived in Guilford, CT for the past year. Mr. Noyes was employed at the former American Locomotive Company in Schenectady, also at Sealtest Ice Cream, the Superior Ice Cream Company and Curtin-Hebert Co. Inc. He worked at the Gloversville Post Office for 32 years as a letter carrier for 17 years and as a clerk for 15 years until his retirement. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gloversville, where he served as Elder and Deacon. He was also a member of the Ida McGinness Senior Citizens Club; National Association of Letter Carriers, and AARP. When he lived in Mayfield he was a member of the Mayfield United Methodist Church. Mr. Noyes will be deeply missed by his wife of 64 years, Virginia L. Reynolds Noyes, and by his two sons, David R. Noyes of Harpursville, NY and Steven C. Noyes of Madison, CT; as well as six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a niece, a nephew, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his sisters Catherine Neil and Doris Soule. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM Tuesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday with the Rev. Carson O. Mouser officiating. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
