Obituary of Gerald Schuyler Fisher

Gerald Schuyler Fisher, 95 passed away suddenly on July 28th in Berwyn, PA. He was a former resident of Gloversville and Vero Beach, FL. He was born on June 18, 1910 in Gloversville, the son of Homer E. and Alice Schuyler Fisher. He was educated in the Gloversville school system and graduated from Gloversville Business School. Mr. Fisher was Vice President of the City National Bank and Trust Co. and worked for the bank for 43 years before retiring in 1974. He was a past director of the Gloversville YMCA and a former member of the Eccentric Club. He was past president of the Gloversville Chamber of Commerce and a former board member of the former Automobile Club of Fulton County where he served as President and Treasurer. He also was a member of the Lunch Bunch who dined monthly at the Johnstown Holiday Inn. He was a member for 79 years at the former First Methodist Church, where he was Chairman of the Finance committee and various other committees. In 1999 he became a member of the Mayfield Methodist Church. He was a World War II veteran and served in the 89th Infantry Division. He was married to Mina Knoble Fisher on July 19, 1935 who preceded him in death on December 26, 2004. Additional survivors include his son, Richard S. Fisher of Berwyn, PA, grandson Todd S Fisher and his wife Stacey of Underhill, VT, granddaughter Elizabeth W. Mercatoris and her husband Michael and great- granddaughter Madeline W. Mercatoris of Carbondale, CO and nephews David R. Fisher and Edwin W. Fisher. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on August 4, 2005 at the Walrath and Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, with the Rev. David Newkirk officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda. There are no calling hours. Expressions of sympathy in his honor may be sent to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
