Obituary of Irma Davila

Irma Davila, 72, of Stratton Apartments, Amsterdam, died Tuesday morning at her home after a long illness. Born December 5, 1933 in Rio Piedra, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of Cruz and Manuela Torres Rodriguez. Irma moved from Puerto Rico to Brooklyn, N.Y. and later Staten Island, where she lived for 20 years. She moved to Amsterdam in July of 2004. She was a housekeeper for a number of years and she was a volunteer for the ambulance service in Puerto Rico. Irma was of the Roman Catholic Faith. On October 12, 1984, she married Edwardo Davila, who died October 23, 1984. Survivors include her loving family; Otoniel Cofresi of Springfield, Massachusetts and Jose Hernandez of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; two daughters, Judith Hernandez and Zoraida Velazquez, both of Amsterdam; a brother, Ishmael Aviles of Puerto Rico; three sisters, Mirta Aviles and Zenia Aviles both of Puerto Rico and Encarcion Aviles of Miami, Florida; ten grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 8 at 10AM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue in Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated Friday at 11AM at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Grove Street, Amsterdam. Burial will take place in St. Michael?s Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 4 to 7PM at the funeral home. A Legacy Candle Ceremony will be held on Thursday at 6:45PM at the funeral home.
