Obituary of Carol Ann Dawson

Carol Ann Dawson, 60, of Phillips Street, died Tuesday morning at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady after a long illness. Born July 7, 1944, in Amsterdam, New York, she was the daughter of Bernard and Margaret Mead Elwood, Sr. She was a life long area resident and attended local schools. Carol was first employed at the Pattersonville Thruway Rest Stop where she worked in the gift shop, later she worked for Domino?s Pizza in Amsterdam. She last was employed as a health care aide at Hillcrest Spring in Amsterdam, retiring in 2000. Carol loved to spoil her grandchildren, she enjoyed playing bingo at the Bingo Palace in Schenectady and during her healthy years had a green thumb when it came to growing flowers around her home. She was married to Douglas Dawson, who died in 1965. Survivors include her loving family; a son, Lawrence Dawson Sr. and his wife Bonnie of Hagaman; three daughters, Carol Sue Pesce and her husband Max of Gloversville, Gloria Dawson of Amsterdam, and Nancy Birch and her husband David, Sr. of Amsterdam; her mother, Margaret Mead of Amsterdam; a brother, Bernard Elwood, Jr. of Amsterdam; two sisters, Eva Egnaczyk of Amsterdam and Susan Alexander of Perth; thirteen grandchildren, one great-grandson; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Tribes Hill, N.Y. with the Rev. Dennis Burke officiating. There will be no calling hours. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue in Amsterdam. Memorial contributions in Carol?s memory for funeral expenses may be made to the care of the funeral home.
