Obituary of Guy C. Saucey

Guy C. Saucey, 81, of Gurley Avenue, Troy, passed away Saturday evening at St. Mary?s Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in Caen, Calvados, France on August 13, 1923, the son of Jules and Jeanne Mauvy Saucey. Guy has lived in the capitol region for a number of years. An accomplished master cabinetmaker and contractor, he was employed for various local firms, including Collins Lumber Co. in Troy until he retired. During World War II, he served with the French Navy, enlisting under Charles DeGaulle in the French resistance. In 1947, his ship, Le Grandcamp, sailed to Texas City, Texas. It was there that an explosion occurred, killing all but six crewmembers. Guy, one of the six, was the disaster?s last survivor. He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty years, Jeanine Massonniere Saucey. They were married on April 18, 1955. His loving daughter Chantal and her husband Daniel Morawski of Grafton; a brother, Jean Saucey of France as well as nieces and nephews in France also survive. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am at the Garden Of Fountainlawn in Memory?s Garden, Colonie. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. There are no calling hours. Contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.
