Obituary of Lois Elizabeth Marshall

Lois Elizabeth ?Betty? Shelmandine Marshall , 84, of Brant Place, passed away Thursday afternoon at St. Mary?s Hospital. She had been a resident of the Mt. Loretto Nursing Home. She was born in Amsterdam on March 31, 1921 and was the last surviving child of Adelbert and Lois Johnson Baumes Shelmandine. Lois was a 1940 graduate of St. Mary?s Institute. She was employed by the Walt Raymond?s Ice Cream Parlor, the Home Dairy Cafeteria , WT Grants and Marshall?s Ice Crème Parlor. She retired in 1993 from K-Mart. A lifelong area resident, she was an active member of St. Ann?s Episcopal Church where she served as a greeter, it?s Episcopal Church Women?s group and the Reading Club of the church. She enjoyed her family and was well known for her home baked pies which she lovingly shared with family and friends. She cherished the memories of the trips she took with relatives to Ireland. Her family includes her husband of sixty-five years, Kenneth Marshall. They were married on Dec. 28, 1939 in Northville. Her daughters; Jean Elizabeth Weakley and her husband Ronald of Charlton, Sharon Ann Brooks and her husband Nicholas of Glenville, and Lois Ellen Goblet and her husband James of Berne NY; grandchildren; James Robert, William John, Ross Whitbeck and Dean Weston Marshall; Timothy Ryan and Jonathan Edward Weakley; Scott David, Michael Daniel and Nicole Elizabeth Brooks; Justin Marshall, Lois Jessica, James Johnson and Elizabeth Grace Goblet; great grandchildren; Korrine, Forystt Sage, Elizabeth Brook and Noah Kenneth Marshall; nieces, nephews and cousins. Lois was predeceased by her son; Robert Duane Marshall; her siblings The Rev. Devere Laverne Shelmandine, Arthur Ross, Adelbert Wells, Johnson Dana, Merle Heathcott and Raymond Stanton Shelmandine, and a sister, Erma Elaenora Schuette. The Office For The Burial Of The Dead will be read Monday at 11:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave. by the Rev. Christopher A. Smith. Interment is in Greenhill Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in her memory to St. Ann?s Episcopal Church, 37 Division Street Amsterdam 12010.
