Obituary of Joseph J. Sobkowicz

Joseph J. Sobkowicz Jr., 60, of Third Street, passed away suddenly Thursday morning at his home. Born in Amsterdam on Oct. 11, 1944, the son of Joseph J. Sr., and Mary Mikenas Sobkowicz, he was a graduate of the class of 1962 of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Following graduation, Joe enlisted in the US Air Force and served for three years in England. Following his tour of duty, he returned to the states and began a career in printing with Amsterdam Printing & Litho. He later worked for Mueller and Jaditz in Albany, the Noteworthy Co. in Amsterdam, and lastly back at Amsterdam Printing. He retired five years ago due to ill health. Joe spent his retirement enjoying his grandchildren, faithfully attending their baseball and football games. He loved to garden and also to fish with his son in law Jim. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus? Roman Catholic Church and was looking forward to the christening of his newest granddaughter there this Saturday. On June 19, 1966 he was united in marriage to the former Mary Lou Martin. In addition to his wife, he leaves his children; Elizabeth A. and her husband Jim Przybylowicz, Joseph J. Sobkowicz III, and Rachel M. and her husband Jeremy Greco all of Amsterdam; his grandchildren: Michael and Ashley Przybylowicz, Sebastian and Emma Greco; a sister, Nancy McCormick of Baltimore Md., his sister in law and brother in law, Judy and Mark Hughes of Hagaman, and nephews and cousins. He was predeceased recently by his nephew and Godson, Mark J. Hughes. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00 am at St. Stanislaus? Church, Cornell Street by the Rev. David Mickiewicz. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Monday from 5-8 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. Interment will take place in St. Mary?s Cemetery, Ft. Johnson. Contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus? Church, or the Montgomery County SPCA both in care of the funeral home.
