Obituary of Horace A. McKeever

Horace ?Mac? A. McKeever, 92, of Truax Road, died Wednesday morning at his home after a long illness. Born January 13, 1913 in Yonkers, New York, he was the son of Charles and Lillian Speed McKeever. Mac was a graduate of Yonkers High School in 1931. He was a U.S. Army- Air Corps. veteran of WWII serving as Staff Sergeant in the 161 TAC Recon Squadron in the Air Offensive in Europe, Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France, and the Rhineland. Mac was first employed by Alexander Smith in New York City, and in 1961 moved from Syosset, Long Island to Amsterdam, where he was employed by Mohasco Industries as head of custom service until retiring in 1978. He was a member of; St. Luke?s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Amsterdam; Amsterdam Masonic Lodge; past master of Hawthorne Lodge of Yonkers; one time Scout Master of St. Luke?s Boy Scout Troop 25 and was a volunteer for Amsterdam Memorial Hospital. Mac enjoyed woodcarving, drawing and playing piano. On October 16, 1937, he married the former Billie Jones, who died on June 17, 1989. Survivors include; a daughter, Lynn Christiano and her husband Rick of Amsterdam; a sister, Marjorie Spruck of the State of Florida; two grandsons, John E. Ulrich and his fiancé Erin Gates, Joe Ulrich and his wife Gina; four step grandchildren, Tricia Green and her husband Curt, Richard Christiano Jr., Joe Christiano and his wife Sonya and Jennifer Ambrosino and her husband Ron; seven great grandchildren, Ethan, Cynthia, Sarah, Alicia, Kayla, Jillian and Lauren; several nieces and nephews also survive. Mac was predeceased by a brother Edward McKeever and a sister Ruth Dobson. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mac?s memory to the Community Hospice of Amsterdam or to the Montgomery County S.P.C.A. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.
