Obituary of Hubert J. Janke

Hubert J. ?Bert? Janke, 65, of Highway 162, Sprakers, passed away Friday evening at his home with his family at his side. Born in Teaneck, New Jersey on May 4, 1940, the son of Hubert K. and Julia Noeding Janke, he was educated in Clifton N.J. A welder by trade, he first was employed by Dupont for ten years and following his relocating to this area Sprakers in 1984, he founded the Currytown Welding Company which he operated until 1992. Later, he drove a coach for Brown?s Bus Service until January of this year. During the ?Cold War? he served with the US Navy on vessels such as the USS Roy O. Hale. Bert had many interests and hobbies that he pursued such as boating, model trains and airplanes, but his greatest passion were his three grandchildren. A member of the Currytown Reformed Church, he was also justice for the Town Of Root for twelve years. He was a member of the Iroquois Seniors in tribes Hill, the Forest Preserve Snowmobiling Club, the Screaming Eagles Model Airplane Club and the Rural Grove Volunteer Fire Department. While still living in New Jersey, he was a member and former chief of the Dupont Fire Brigade and the assistant chief of Pompton Lakes Volunteer Fire Department. He leaves behind his loving family, including his wife, the former Elizabeth J. ?Betty? Intveld whom he married on January 14, 1961; his mother, Julia Janke of Rochelle Park N.J.; a son, John H. and his wife Merideth Janke of Rotterdam NY; His daughter, Linda J. and her husband George Thayer of Sprakers; a sister, Katherine and her husband John Anthony of Pompton Lakes NJ; his grandchildren Kevin Thayer, Matthew and Luke Janke as well as two aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of his life will take place on Tuesday at 11:00 am at the Currytown Reformed Church. The Rev. Joyce Jennings will officiate. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday from 4-8 pm at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street Fultonville. Interment with military honors will take place in Maple Avenue Cemetery Fultonville. To remember Bert, those who wish may make a contribution to the American Cancer Society, or the Mountain Valley Hospice both in care of the funeral home.
