Obituary of Roy J. Delarm

Mr. Roy J. Delarm, Sr., 77, of Wall St., Amsterdam, passed away Saturday at Vitas Inpatient Manor Care in Winter Park, FL. Born on December 6, 1927 in Leicester, Mass, he was a son of Wallace and Edith Guyette Delarm. Mr. Delarm moved to Randall, NY as a child and attended local schools. He was employed as an operating engineer in construction for many years, first working for American Construction in Amsterdam, later for D.A. Collins Construction in Albany and lastly the Hudson River Construction Co. in Albany until his retirement in 1990. Mr. Delarm was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers in Syracuse, was an avid golfer, and was involved in many community volunteer activities. He was also an active member of the United Methodist Church in Amsterdam where he served as Trustee, was on the Pastor Parish Relation Committee, the Finance Committee, the Building Committee, and at one time was the Sunday School Superintendent. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Hess Delarm whom he married on November 3, 1945; 3 sons, Roy J. Delarm Jr. of Scotia, NY, Larry P. Delarm of Roswell, GA, and Daniel L. Delarm of Saratoga Springs; a daughter, Sandra J. Constantine of Amsterdam, NY; a brother, Floyd Delarm of Dania, FL; 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and several nieces, and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Golf Course Rd., Amsterdam with the Rev. Brian Gould officiating. The burial will take place in the Hagaman Cemetery, Hagaman. Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, NY. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the United Methodist Church Permanent Endowment Fund, 347 Golf Course Rd., Amsterdam, NY 12010.
