Obituary of Robert Jerome McCune

Robert Jerome McCune, 71, of Lindsay Street, passed away suddenly Friday morning Feb. 4th at his home. Born in Amsterdam on March 12, 1933 he was the son of Mr. & Mrs. William McCune and a graduate of St. Mary?s Institute. He later joined the United States Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. Bob worked for a time at General Electric in Schenectady and later, for thirty years, he was an analyst for the New York State Enviornmental Conservation Office, retiring in 1992. Bob was a well known area ?watch dog? for consumers and the general public alike. He communicated with many politicians, both on a local level and national as well. He had frequent correspondence with the White House and also was editorialized often in the Amsterdam Recorder and Schenectady Gazette under the pen name of R. Jerome McCune. He was a communicant of the Roman Catholic Church of St. JohnThe Baptist. On April 26, 1968, he married his beloved Nellie Antos Cichy McCune. Together they shared almost thirty seven years of happiness. In addition to Nellie, he is survived by his granddaughter, Kelly and her husband Chris Araya and great-granddaughters; Jillian and Lauren, a special niece Pat and her husband Richard Sidlauscus as well as other nieces and nephews. His step daughter, Nancy Quick and a grandson, Kevin Quick both predeceased him. Funeral services are today, Saturday, Feb. 5th at 10:30 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at the Church Of St. John The Baptist, Vanderveer Street. Fr. Stanley J. Swierzowski, celebrant. Internment will take place in St. John?s Cemetery. A calling hour will begin at 9:30 am today prior to the service. It is the request of Bob?s family that contributions be made to the Kevin Quick Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of the funeral home, Amsterdam NY 12010.
