Obituary of Theresa DelCostello

Theresa DelCostello, age 98, of Gloversville, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, April 26, 2018 at Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home.

 

She was born May 19, 1919 in Gloversville, the daughter of the late John and Marianne Capobianco Clemente. She was employed at the Pentagon in Washington, DC and later worked as a sales clerk at Sears, Roebuck Co. in Gloversville. Along with her late husband, Herman, she assisted in the daily operation of their business, known as Carmen's Market on S. Main Street in Gloversville. After the store closed, along with her family, she was well-known in the area for their work in Estate Sales.

 

Theresa was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit, the Sisters of the Holy Spirit and the former Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary. She loved cooking and baking, especially apple pie. She instilled her love of cooking and baking to each of her granddaughters in her own special way. She thoroughly enjoyed family gatherings around her table.

 

She is survived by her twin children, Steven DelCostello of Gloversville and Susan Fahd (Charles) of Massena; a sister, Jennie Parker of Lomita, CA; five grandchildren, Brea Delaney (Patrick), Torey DelCostello, Meaghan Sloane (Marc), Jonathan Fahd (Tiffany) and Francesca Fahd; two great-grandchildren, Tucker and Teagan Fahd; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

Theresa was predeceased by her husband of nearly 62 years, Herman DelCostello; two brothers, Michael Clemente and Carmen Clemente, five sisters, Angeline Hoggins, Sally Manieri, Madeline Vietri, Susan Wheeler and Martha Crittenden.

 

The family will receive relatives and friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 29 , at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10 a.m. Monday at The Church of the Holy Spirit, 151 S. Main St; Gloversville, with the Rev. Donald Czelusniak as celebrant.

 

Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.

 

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to The Church of the Holy Spirit, 151 S. Main St; Gloversville, or to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave;  Gloversville, NY 12078.
