Obituary of Eugene A. Davis

Mr. Eugene A. "Gene" Davis, 80, formerly of Flat Creek, NY died peacefully Wednesday, July 14, 2010 in Savannah, GA. Born in New York City on September 2, 1929 he was the son of the late Roy and Helen Pilch Davis. Gene served proudly with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict for five years. It was during that time that he met the love of his life, the former Vitta Damico. Together for 57 years, they were married on October 18, 1952 and were inseparable until her passing on December 29, 2009. He was also predeceased by his sisters Louise Jennings and Josephine Gerry. Employed for 32 years, Gene worked as a fork life operator for Beech- Nut. He was also a member of the VFW Post 3275 in Fort Plain, NY, the Canajoharie Moose Lodge and was a communicant of the former St. Peter's & Paul's Roman Catholic Church. Since January Gene has resided in Richmond Hill, GA truly enjoying retirement and being near his only grandson. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his daughter, Helen Durkin of Olympia, WA; his grandson, Nicholas Durkin and his wife Trisha of Richmond Hill, GA; his siblings Victor Davis, Dorothy Mathas and Mildred Knowls; a sister in law, Marion Vianese of Amsterdam, NY; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, July 19, 2010 at 10 o'clock at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, 115 Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY with the Rev. James E. Clark as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Peter's & Paul's Cemetery where Gene will once again join Vitta for eternity. There is no calling hours at Gene's request. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
