Obituary of Beverly J. Holmes

Beverly J. Holmes, age 80 of Gloversville passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at Albany Medical Center. She was born April 1, 1930 in Amsterdam, NY. She was the daughter of Felicia Nadroski and LaVerne Colts. She was a graduate of Wilbur Lynch High School in Amsterdam. On June 4, 1949, she married John Jack Holmes. They had 4 children together: Jackie Larry Smith of Northville, NY, Mark Sally Holmes of La Crescenta, CA, Dale Denise Ragone Holmes of Clifton Park, NY, Janet Tom Velte of Oceanside, CA. Beverly also had 6 grandchildren: Jennifer Luis Ribas, Matt Smith, April Holmes, Melody Holmes, Katie Holmes and Michael Velte; and 2 great-grandchildren: Alex Ribas and Samuel Ribas. Beverly worked tirelessly for many years as a stitcher with St. Thomas, Inc. both on site as well as at home. She loved to sew for herself and her girls when they were young. Bev and Jack were members of the Pine Brook Golf Course for many years. They enjoyed their rounds both on and off the course. She also instilled a love of music in her children through her talents as a pianist. Bev and Jack started their own designer sweatshirt business called Southern Exposure. Together, Bev and Jack manufactured and sold their product for 14 years at the Stuart Flea Market in Florida. Bev also loved to paint with oils. She sold much of her art work at local art shows. Over the last few years, she has been knitting caps and sweaters for newborns at Nathan Littauer Hospital. She also enjoyed serving her community as an election inspector. As a woman of great faith, Beverly was an active member of the North Main St. Methodist Church in Gloversville. The family will receive relatives and friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, July 17 at the North Main St. United Methodist Church where a memorial service will follow at 12:00 p.m. with the Rev. Christopher Hamm officiating. Cremation will take place at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the North Main St. United Methodist Church, 316 N. Main St; Gloversville, NY 12078. Arrangements have been entrusted to Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville.
