Lucy Franco

Obituary of Lucy P. Franco

Lucy Lucia Franco gently and peacefully entered into the arms of The Lord on July 10, 2010. Lucy is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 67 years, Vincenzo Jim Franco and her six children: John Patricia Franco, Nancy Mark Clemente, Dee Richard Bunkoff, Mary David Moller, Ann Robert Waite, and Jeanne Warren Greene. Being one of ten children born to Philomena DiMartine and Pasquale Sanges, her remaining siblings are Albert, Alfred, and Delores. Lucy is now with her six predeceased siblings: Lorny, Babe, Margaret, Marie, Ray, and Herman. There are no words to properly express the love Lucy had for her nine grandchildren: James Franco, Edward Franco, David Christine Franco, Lynn Clemente, Amy Mary Frisella, Adam Carolyn Bunkoff, Nathan Christine Bunkoff, Stephen Greene and Jacob Greene. The same can be said of her nine great-grandchildren: Alexandra, Madeline Maddy, Addison, Emily, Connor, Samuel, Kate, Megan and Hailey. Lucy made a lifetime of wonderful memories for three generations of family. There were wonderful times spent in the yard swimming, playing a variety of outdoor games, dining out at their favorite restaurants, birthday and special occasion parties, and eating lots of wonderful homemade dinners and desserts made by her loving hands that were busily and happily doing her favorite things until the last year of her life. Lucy always had her camera nearby to capture precious moments that we now cherish with endless albums of memories. Lucy was the meticulous bookkeeper for Bowman's Market, that she and her husband purchased in 1950. She did an impeccable job, without the aid of computer technology, until the age of 90. She gave thanks to her many blessings at the Church of the Holy Spirit, of which she was an involved member. She was a spiritual woman and loved to attend and serve at Church every Sunday. She further served her community by devoting countless hours to the YWCA as its Treasurer. She and her husband were also lifetime members of the Italian American Community Center in Albany, NY. Over a period of time, they had the pleasure of meeting and enjoying the company of other members as well as the staff. They also loved to dine and dance with friends on Saturday nights. Lucy was an incredible homemaker. She loved to cook from scratch and the older generation of this loving close knit family has fond memories of her home made pasta. She would tirelessly bake and cook weeks before upcoming holidays with Christmas being her favorite time to start her traditional cookie making. Cookies and other baked goods were given to family and friends, all with a presentation of the finest of bakeries. Lucy loved to crochet beautifully crafted Afghans and tree skirts for family and friends. Her backyard was a testament to her master gardening abilities as well. In the spring and summer months, it would be filled with the most amazing variety of flowers and vegetables that harvested plenty to share with her loved ones. She loved to make beautifully framed artwork out of puzzles that took her countless hours to create, glaze and frame. Our favorite is an amazing four-foot grandfather clock that hangs on the wall and keeps actual time. Anyone who knew Lucy will miss her. We feel doubly blessed that she has left us with our very personal memories that are not tangible, but forever in our hearts. She has also left us with all the beautiful things that were made with her loving hands, that will forever keep the soul of this precious, spiritual wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend alive in our hearts until we are joined in heaven with her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 am Tuesday at The Church of the Holy Spirit with Reverend Michael Clemente and The Very Reverend Donald Czelusniak, Pastor, celebrating. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may made to The Church of The Holy Spirit Building Fund, 149 S. Main St. Gloversville, N.Y. 12078, Mt. Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave. Gloversville or to a charity of choice.
