Obituary of Josephine Szumowski Martin

Josephine Szumowski Martin, age 89, of Gloversville passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home. She was born on July 16, 1920 in Pearl River, NY. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Pauline Kozy Szumowski. Josephine was a graduate of Gloversville High School, Class of 1939. She was employed as an assistant office supervisor for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Gloversville and Schenectady for 25 years. She retired in 1982. She was elected President of the Fulton County Chapter of AARP from 1985 through 1986. During her retirement years, Josephine attended many classes teaching her how to decorate cakes. She showed her love and joy of her family and friends by baking and expertly decorating lavish and detailed cakes. She also enjoyed line dancing, practicing calligraphy, e-mailing and surfing the internet on her computer and attending events with the Trackside Home Red Hat Society. Josephine is survived by a son, Nestor A. Bojarczuk Jr. and daughter-in-law Toni of Poughkeepsie, NY, a stepson William Martin and daughter-in-law Gail of Ballston Spa, NY, a stepdaughter JoAnne Kestas and son-in-law Philip of England, six grandchildren: Dana Bojarczuk Burckhard and husband Brian, Eric Bojarczuk and wife Tina, Stephen Martin and wife Michelle, Bradley Martin and wife Tyffani, Yolanda Bage and Michael Kestas. Additional survivors include: four great grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Natalie Burckhard, Lilliana and Margaret Bojarczuk as well as several nieces and nephews. Josephine was preceded in death by her first husband Nestor A. Bojarczuk Sr., her second husband William Martin and her four brothers: Nickolas Szumowski, Michael Szumowski, Frank T. Szumowski and Edward Szumowski. Calling hours will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home; 51 Fremont Street; Gloversville. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Holy Trinity Church; 205 Glebe Street; Johnstown with the Rev. Kenneth Swain officiating. Interment will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
