Obituary of Marjorie W. Whipple

Marjorie W. "Marge" Whipple, 88, of Johnstown, NY and formerly of Fultonville, NY died peacefully on Monday, June 28, 2010 following a brief illness. Born on April 21, 1922 she was the daughter of the late Mason and Angie Aldridge Worthing. Marge was born and raised in Webster, NY where she graduated from high school. She then went on to attend and graduate from the University of Rochester in 1943 and then SUNY Oneonta in 1959. Marge or Mrs. Whipple as she became known as, began her teaching career in Canajoharie in 1956. She then moved on to Fonda- Fultonville Central in 1957; where she retired 37 years later in June of 1994. An exceptional woman, Marge was also a pillar of the community in many respects. She was a Sunday School Superintendent at her beloved church, the Fultonville Reformed Church and also served as Deacon and Treasurer. As a member of the Church Women's Guild, she served as President and Vice President. Marge was a member and committee member of the Johnstown Christian Women's Club and served the Village of Fultonville as Trustee and Clerk- Treasurer. She also served as Vice President and President of the Frothingham Free Library Board of Trustees. Marge was also a respected member of the Order of the Eastern Star #489, the New York State United Teachers, Daughter's of the American Revolution Caughnawaga Chapter, the Fonda- Fultonville Teachers Association, American Math Teachers of New York State and the New York State Teachers of Mathematics. Above all, Marge loved her family dearly. She was especially proud of her children's and grandchildren's accomplishments and supported them in all of their endeavors. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. On November 25, 1943 she was united in marriage to William Whipple. Sadly that union lasted 11 years until his passing on March 13, 1954. She was also predeceased by an infant sister at birth. Her loving family includes her four children, Elizabeth "Betsy" Ferris Marshall and her husband Arthur, William Whipple, Sr. and his wife Leona, James M. Whipple, Sr. and his wife Carolyn, and Susan Schwabrow and her husband Willis "Bill"; several grandchildren; and one great grandson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 2 o'clock at the Fultonville Reformed Church, Corner of State Hwy 5s and Main Street, Fultonville, NY with the Rev. Donald Pangburn presiding. Interment will follow in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown, NY. Relatives and friends are invited and may call prior to the service, beginning at 12 noon at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations are made to the Fultonville Reformed Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY.
