Obituary of Hope B. Pettit

Hope B. Pettit, age 84, of Gloversville, entered eternal peace on Sunday, June 27, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. She was born in the Town of Hope, NY on March 23, 1926 the daughter of Florence Elizabeth and William "Burton" Hayes as well as the stepdaughter of Sarah and Leo Bovee. Hope completed her G.E.D at Gloversville High School in 1972. And was employed by Sears Roebuck & Co. until her retirement in the early 1980's. On July 2, 1950 Hope married the late William H.T. Pettit. The shared 49 years united in marriage, until his passing on July 30, 1989. She is survived by 5 daughters: Katherine Ryle Edward Blazer, Patricia Pettit, Sharon VanNostrand, Hope Creglis Warren all of Gloversville, Ellen Lair Richard of Caroga Lake, 5 sons: William A.D. Pettit Nancy, Peter Pettit, Joseph Pettit Linda, Jacque Pettit all of Gloversville and Samuel Pettit Carla of Johnstown. Additional survivors include 2 half sisters Jeannine Sqroi of Ravena and Florence Van Allen of Mayfield. She had 27 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and several loving nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, parents and stepparents, Hope was preceded in death by a son, Michael Pettit, 3 brothers: Burton "Sam Bass" Hayes, Douglas Hayes and half brother Arthur Hayes. A great granddaughter Andrea Pettit also preceded her. Friends and relative are invited and may call from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home; 51 Fremont Street; Gloversville. A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday June 30, 2010 at the funeral home with the Rev Dr. Terrence O?Neill officiating. Interment will take place in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Hope to the American Cancer Society; 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, NY 12211.
