Obituary of Helen May LaPorte

Helen May LaPorte, 77, of State Highway 30, Town of Perth, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening at her home with family at her side. Born in Fort Johnson, NY Oct. 21, 1932, she was the daughter of the late John and Mabel Cromer Hassfurter. Educated locally, she lived here her entire life. Helen was a home maker who enjoyed cooking, playing cards and bingo. She was the perfect organizer for family events and things around the home. Her family was most important to her and they will truly miss her. Helen worked for a time as a dietary aide and cook at Mount Loretto Nursing Home. She was a parishioner of St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church in Hagaman. On June 10, 1951, she was united in marriage to Andre LaPorte. In addition to her beloved husband of fifty nine years, Helen leaves her children; son Andre LaPorte Jr. of Wilmington N.C. ; daughters Shirley LaPorte of Raleigh, N.C., Theresa LaPorte of East Syracuse and Marie Michael Quiri of Fort Hunter; grandchildren; Nicole Sikorski, Brandy Kelleher, Ashley VanAllen, Janelle LaPorte, Jessica Spraker and Amanda Ottalagano; nine great grandchildren and another to be born this year; a brother, Clarence Hassfurter of Amsterdam and sisters; Frances Fonda and Elizabeth Delos both of Hagaman; nieces, nephews and cousins. in addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother John Hassfurter, and sisters Madeline Romleski and Mary Bruce. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Monday at 9:30 am at St. Stephen's Church 46 N. Pawling Street Hagaman by Fr. Pascal A. Iannotti. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Sunday from 2-4 pm at the Betz Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. A vigil prayer service will be held Sunday at 3pm at the funeral home led by Deacon Joseph Pagano. Entombment will take place in the family mausoleum in Northville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Helen's name to Mountain Valley Hospice or to St. Stephen's Church, both in care of the funeral home office.
