Obituary of Mabel J. Flanders

Mrs. Mabel J. Flanders, 90, formerly of Fort Plain, NY died peacefully on Monday, June 7, 2010 at the St. Johnsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness. Born in Cold Brook, NY on June 4th, 1920 she was the daughter of the late Fuller and Ella Harden Pulis. Mrs. Flanders owned and operated the Cozy Beauty Shop in Fort Plain for many years until her retirement in 1985. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church. Mrs. Flanders enjoyed the outdoor and her camp on the Sacandaga Lake. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. On June 29, 1938 she was united in marriage to Bernard Flanders. That union lasted 59 years until his passing on February 8, 1997. She was also predeceased by her brother, Gordon C. Pulis and her sisters, Katherine Wiese and Flora Geweye. Her family includes her only son, Thomas Ward Flanders and his wife Louise of Canajoharie, NY; her two grandchildren, Col. Thomas Patrick Flanders and his wife Mary Kelly of Manassas, VA and Mary L. Douglass and her husband Patrick of Canajoharie, NY. Six great grandsons and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 2 o?clock at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. James E. Clark as celebrant. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment of her remains will follow in the Fort Plain Cemetery. At Mrs. Flander?s request, there is no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Our Lady of Hope Church, PO Box 287, Fort Plain, NY 13339. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
