Obituary of Doris Schoolcraft Maxon

Mrs. Doris Maxon, age 92, of Johnstown, died Sunday evening, June 6, 2010 at Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville. She was born March 1, 1918 in Richmondville, NY, the daughter of the late Clarence and Emma VanNatter Schoolcraft. She attended Gloversville schools and later worked for 25 years as an office clerk at Fownes Brothers in Gloversville and Conroy Gloves in Johnstown. She then was employed at Barker's, White-Modell and King's Dept. Stores in Johnstown for about ten years. Mrs. Maxon was a member of North Main Street United Methodist Church in Gloversville. Doris was married on June 23, 1938 to Adelbert Warren Maxon who died January 3, 1997. She is survived by her sister, Ethel Putman of Johnstown; five nieces and nephews, Nancy L. Sammons Richard of Sammonsville, Douglas Schoolcraft, Jr. Emma of Florida, Debbie A. Austin of Schenectady, Dena Schoolcraft of Broadalbin and David Schoolcraft of Gloversville; as well as several grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Douglas Schoolcraft, and a nephew, Wesley D. Putman. The family will receive relatives and friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, June 10 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Christopher Hamm officiating. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
