Obituary of Betty Sorella

Betty Sorella RN, 78, of Roosevelt Rd., passed away early Wednesday morning at Ellis Hospital. Born Sept. 18, 1931 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of the late Reginald and Lillian Cline Firth. She was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School and later St. Mary's Hospital School Of Nursing. She then began her long career as a registered nurse serving for twenty years as county public nurse. She retired in 1991. Betty was an avid bowler and golfer and was a member of Amsterdam Muni Golf Course. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother, generously opening her door to all. She was a parishioner of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the Johnstown Moose Lodge where she and her husband enjoyed many good times with friends. She will be truly missed. Her beloved husband, George J. Sorella, whom she married on August 22, 1986, predeceased her on June 6th of last year. She leaves her children Mark Drobish and William Drobish of Amsterdam and Kevin Claudia Drobish of Sebastian, Fla.; step daughter Diane Ornston of Clifton Park; brother William Lynne Firth of Palm Harbor, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, Lisa Rob Wilkie, Dean April DeMeo, Jason, Jennifer, Zachary, Shawn Angie, Jeremy, Kevin, Garett, Justin and Mark Drobish; 10 great grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. Services are Saturday at 10:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Church, 156 East Main Street. Fr. John Medwid, celebrant. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Shrine of St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 5-7 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in her name to St. Mary's Church in care of the funeral home office.
