Obituary of Gary G. Alikonis

Gary G. Alikonis, 58, of Park Avenue, former resident of Amsterdam, NY, passed away Tuesday morning at the Albany Medical Center after a motor cycle accident May 2, 2010. His loving family was at his side. Born November 8, 1951 in Amsterdam, he was the son of George P. Alikonis Jr. and the late Delia C. Riley Alikonis. Gary lived most of his life in Amsterdam and was a graduate of St. Joseph s School and attended Wilbur H. Lynch High School and Fonda- Fultonville High School. Gary was an independent truck driver for years where he owned his own truck before working for Callahan Industries, the Delaney Group, DA Collins and Jett Industries. He was a member of Teamsters local 294 in Albany and was a former member of the Leather Wings and the Breed motorcycle groups. Gary owned and loved working on his Harley- Davidson motor cycle, he also enjoyed working on cross word puzzles and was a NASCAR fan. Survivors include two sons, Adam S. Alikonis of Amsterdam and Gary G. Alikonis, Jr. of Albany, NY; father, George P. Alikonis Jr. of Fort Wayne, Indiana, a sister, Gail A. Fallova of Glenville; two nephews, Shawn Fallova and Salvatore Fallova both of Latham, NY; companion Margo Wilson. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at 11:00 AM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY with the Rev. John Medwid officiating. Burial of Gary s cremated remains will take place at a later date at St. Joseph s Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Gary s memory to the Brain Trauma Foundation, 7 World Trade Center, 250 Greenwich Street, 34th Floor, New York, New York 10007.
