Obituary of Madeline E. Brown

Mrs. Madeline E. Leggiero Brown, 76, of Broadway, Fonda, NY and Sebring, FL died suddenly on Sunday, April 18, 2010 at her home in Florida. Born in Amsterdam, NY on July 12, 1933 she was the daughter of the late Bartholomew and Concetta Mancini Leggiero. A lifelong area resident, Madeline was a graduate of Fonda High School. She was a hairdresser and owned and operated the Wagon Wheel in Fonda, NY for many years. Madeline was a member of the Red Hats, the B.P.O.E. in Florida, St. Mary?s Auxiliary, the Loyal Order of the Moose, Glen- Mohawk Seniors and the Women?s Democratic Committee of Montgomery County. She was of the Catholic faith and was a communicant of the former Immaculate Conception Church in Johnstown, NY and was a current parishioner of St. Cecilia?s Church in Fonda, NY. On October 28, 1951 she was united in marriage to Robert A. Brown, Sr. That union lasted nearly 55 years until his passing on April 25, 2006. Madeline was a hard working woman with class. She loved to bake, play cards, crochet afghans for her grandchildren and square dance. She loved her family and having a good time with friends. Madeline loved her family; especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was always a dedicated true friend. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her loving family includes her three children, Robert A. Brown, Jr. and his wife Gail of Oregon City, OR, Barto Brown and his wife Elizabeth of Johnstown, NY and Beth Morris and her husband Brian of Saratoga, NY; one sister, Eva Waffle and her husband Robert of Palatine Bridge, NY; seven grandchildren, Alyssa, Bart II, Megan, Cody, Robert III, Brian Turner and Mary Elizabeth; five great grandchildren, Aiden, Avery, Adrian, Costa and Bailey; her dear friend, Steve McCain of Sebring, FL; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 9 o?clock at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY 12072, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 o? clock at St. Cecilia?s Roman Catholic Church, Broadway, Fonda, NY with the Rev. Patrick Gallagher, OFM Conv. as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Mary?s Cemetery, Ft. Johnson, NY. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday, April 23, 2010 from 4 until 7p.m. at the funeral home. The Glen- Mohawk Seniors will meet at 4:30p.m. at the funeral home Friday evening for a prayer service. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to St. Jude?s Children?s Cancer Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
