Obituary of Joseph F. Anadio

Joseph F. Anadio, age 75, of Gloversville, died early Sunday morning, April 11, 2010 at his home with his family at his side. He was born November 15, 1934 in Gloversville, the son of the late Anthony and Barbara Izzo Anadio. A graduate of Gloversville High School, he later served in the US Army from 1957 to 1959. He worked in the leather industry all of his life at Wood & Hyde, Leavitt & Berner and at Dares Leather until his retirement in 1990. Joe was a member of the Church of The Holy Spirit and Catholic War Veterans in Gloversville. He was an avid New York Yankee fan and enjoyed bowling. He was a former Gloversville Little League Baseball coach and was well-known as the "Tootsie Roll Man" to many children and adults in the area. On April 8, 1956, Joe was united in mariage to Betty Houghteling who survives. Also surviving are three children, Mary Jo VanWicklen Michael of Amsterdam, James J. Anadio Fiancée Debra Hollenbeck of Johnstown and Michele A. Maye James of Gloversville; a sister, Barbara A. Ciocca Benjamin of New Hartford, NY; four brothers: Anthony E. Anadio Patricia of Georgia, Peter R. Anadio Edna of Gloversville, Edwin C. Anadio Shirley of Gloversville and Benjamin J. Anadio Fiancée Pauline Intelisano of Saratoga; five grandchildren: Bridgett Walrath, James Anadio II, Andrew Anadio, Eric Maye and Brienna Jo King; an uncle, Benjamin Anadio of Gloversville; a special brother-in-law, Scott R. Houghteling Joan of New Mexico and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Carl J. Anadio and a sister, Elsie M. Salino. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville. A memorial mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Church of The Holy Spirit, 151 S. Main St; Gloversville, with the Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak as celebrant. Cremation took place at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Assoc; 440 New Karner Rd; Albany, NY 12205 or to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
