Obituary of Miguel A. Orengo

Mr. Miguel A. Orengo, Sr., 81, of Slater Street, Amsterdam, NY died peacefully on Friday, April 9, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital with his family by his side. Born on December 29, 1928 in Yaucco, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Victoriano Orengo and Carmen Santiago. In pursuit of the "American Dream", Miguel immigrated to Brooklyn, NY on March 17, 1957. He then moved to Amsterdam, NY in July of 1965 and began work at Montenaro's until 1972. Miguel then went to work for Longview Fiber in Amsterdam until his retirement. A man dedicated to his family and his country, he served with the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Orengo was the first Spanish DJ on WKOL in 1968. He was also a member of the Post 701 and the Spanish American Club, where he served as an officer for many years. Above all he loved his family and animals. He will never be forgotten and sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was predeceased by his parents; an infant son, Miguel A. Orengo; a daughter, Blanca Orengo Castro; a granddaughter, Jordyn Marie Orengo; and his brothers, Juan, Angel and Lorenzo Orengo. His loving family includes his wife of 60 years, the former Rosa Santiago; 10 children, Xavier Orengo, Sr. and his wife Susan of TN, Miguel A. Orengo, Jr. of FL, Madeline Millan and her husband Otilio of Amsterdam, NY David Orengo and his wife Kelly of Amsterdam, NY, Jose M. Orengo and his wife Stormy of Amsterdam, NY, Ricardo Orengo, Sr. and his wife Elizabeth of Amsterdam, NY, Louis E. Orengo and his wife Elba of FL, Adalberto Orengo, Sr. and his wife Angelica of Amsterdam, NY, Gabriel Orengo and his wife Jessica of Amsterdam, NY and Edgardo Orengo and his wife Misty of Tribes Hill, NY; and one brother, Sinifredo "Pepin" Orengo of Canajoharie, NY. He is also survived by his 36 cherished grandchildren, Jennifer Brian, Rita, Xavier Jr., Emilio, Rachel, Nivia, Miguel "Mondo", Orlando, Gianni, Chivon Chris, Alyana, Otilo III, David Jr., Alyssa, Talia, Julianna, Alonzo, Erica, Ricky Jr., Anthony, Natalie, Lillia, Louis Jr., Tatianna, Thalina, Alexandra, Adalberto Jr., Gabriel, Jiovani, Nicholino, Lillian, Michele, Isabella, Iris, Inez and Jose; 16 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 11 o'clock at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Interment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Sandflats, Fonda, NY with military honors. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Monday, April 12, 2010 from 4 until 7p.m at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
