Obituary of Freda C. Wicklund

Freda C. Wicklund, age 93, of Gloversville, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility, Gloversville, where she had resided the past eleven years. She was born May 14, 1916 in Gallton, PA, the daughter of the late Gustav and Alma Antonson Wicklund. She attended the former Bemis Road School in the Town of Mayfield, and later worked in the baby food department at Beech-Nut Foods in Canajoharie for many years. Freda was proud to provide child-care for many families in Fulton County throughout her lifetime. She also devoted much time to her nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She loved to cook and bake, and enjoyed running the bake sales at her church, the Bleecker Street Church of Christ, where she was very active. Everyone enjoyed tasting her famous cinnamon buns and chocolate jumbo cookies. She was also a member of Cloverdale Rebekah Lodge. She is survived by six nieces and nephews: Terry Young Marty of Gloversville, Cheryl Cristiano of Warrenville, SC; Carol Martin Dave of The Villages, FL; Eileen Newton Bob of Niantic, CT; Neil Wicklund of Gloversville and Cyndy Myers Steve of Guilderland; 16 grandnieces and grandnephews and several great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers: Albert Wicklund and Carl Wicklund, and by her sisters: Mildred Dence, Amelia Gallup and Helen Young. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 5 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, with the Rev. Sandra Geer officiating. There will be no calling hours. Private interment will take place at the convenience of the family at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
