Obituary of Edith Lazarou

Edith Lazarou, 86, of Gray Street, passed away peacefully Sunday morning at her home with loving family at her side. Born in Amsterdam on April 13, 1923, in the same home she lived in her entire life, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Anna Martini Zappone. Edith worked as a seamstress for various local dress companies in the Amsterdam area. She was a home maker, who loved to sew and bake and spend time with her family. On October 26, 1947, she was united in marriage to James Lazarou. Theirs was a beautiful and devoted union that lasted nearly sixty three years, with Jim being at her side until the last. Edith was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Postal Carriers Union, a life long parishioner of Our Lady Of Mount Carmel R.C. Church and at one time a member of it's Christian Women's Society. She leaves her husband James Lazarou; son, Michael J. and his wife Nanita Lazarou of Amsterdam; daughters; Kathleen Lazarou and her husband John Adams of Houston Texas, Elizabeth and her husband Thomas Rogers of Amsterdam, and Diane Morrone of Guilderland; grandchildren; Courtney and her husband Franco Raso, Philip and Peter Morrone , and Anastasia and Olivia Lazarou; great grandsons, Francesco and Salvatore Raso; she was the sister of Raffaela Costello and Eleanor Duchessi both of Amsterdam, and the late Carmella Serge and Thomas Zappone; nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. The Mass Of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 9:15 am at Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Church by Fr. Lawrence J. Decker, pastor. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Wednesday from 4-7 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. Interment is in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Those who wish may make a contribution in her name to Mt. Carmel Memorial Fund, Community Health Center Of Johnstown or Community Hospice Of Amsterdam, all in care of the funeral home office.
