Obituary of Helen Thompson

Helen Thompson, 97, formerly of Romeyn Avenue, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility after a brief illness. She had resided at the Park Hill Adult Home on Grove Street. Born in the Town Of Amsterdam on March 30, 1912, she was the daughter of the late William and Viva Frink Lohmeyer. She was a graduate of the former Yankee Hill Country School in 1925, and the Class of 1929 of Amsterdam High School. Helen attended the former Amsterdam School Of Commerce where she graduated in 1930. She was employed for many years in the law offices of the late Hon. Chandler S. Knight and Coleman Taylor in Amsterdam as well as the late Ralph Kurlbaum. Later, Helen worked for over twenty years in the Amsterdam branch of Marine Midland Bank. She was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church as well as it's Woman's Christian Service Circle and the shawl ministry on Tuesday's. On October 19, 1935 she was united in marriage to David Thompson who predeceased her on Sept. 30, 1991. She leaves her dear son David L. Thompson of Amsterdam as well as nieces , nephews and cousins. Services will take place on Tuesday at 11:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. The Rev. William T. Hodgetts, Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. There will be no prior calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Trinity E.L. Church, or the Montgomery Co. SPCA both in care of the funeral home office.
