Obituary of M. Eileen Billings

Mrs. M. Eileen Billings, age 95, of Broadway Street, passed away suddenly on Monday at her home. Born April, 21, 1914 in Amsterdam, NY, she was the daughter of the late Arthur A. and Mary Ellen Going McKearn. She was a 1931 graduate of St. Mary's Institute and later she graduated from the Amsterdam School of Commerce. Eileen was first employed as a secretary for the old Amsterdam Memorial Hospital and later she worked as a secretary for a carpet company in Schenectady. She was last employed as a bookkeeper for George Schuttig Jr. Eileen was a parishioner of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam and she was a member of the St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a member of the St. Mary's Seniors; Mount Carmel Seniors and the Inman Seniors. She was one of the founders of the Home Bureau in Montgomery County. Eileen enjoyed knitting, crocheting and working on crafts. On November 23, 1939 she married William H. Billings who passed away January 10, 1963. She was also predeceased by two brothers John and James McKearn and a sister Jeanne Smith. Survivors include a step- son Edward A. Billings Linda of Higganum, Connecticut; two sisters, Rita Lange and Margaret Hugo both of Amsterdam; a sister-in-law, Ruth Laird Wierzbicki of Amsterdam and a brother-in-law, Earl R. Billings of Ohio; five step grandchildren; eleven step-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Saturday February 20, 2010 at 8:30 AM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral, 171 Guy Park avenue, Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 9:15 AM at St. Mary's Church, East Main street, Amsterdam with the Rev. John Medwid as celebrant. Burial will be held in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Eileen's memory to St. Mary's Church c/o the funeral home.
